About Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, with an estimated population that fluctuates around 500,000 people. With about three million people living in Lisbon’s metropolitan area, the city welcomed over four million tourists last year, more than any other city or region in Portugal. With a long and rich history, warm climate, and beautiful beaches, it’s no surprise that Lisbon attracts so many tourists to Portugal.

Lisbon property access and key exchange

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe and the world, with the first pre-Celtic tribe settlements dating back to the 1st millennium BC. Lisbon’s long history is filled with various indigenous settlements during the iron age, Roman occupations and barbaric invasions in the early second to fifth centuries, and religious crusades throughout the middle ages. Today, Lisbon is one of the two Portuguese cities (along with Porto) that are recognised as global cities due to their importance in finance, trade, arts, and tourism.

Lisbon’s Sharing Economy

Lisbon has been integrating a variety of sharing economy mobility services into the city so that residents and visitors always have access to a medium of transport. Car sharing service DriveNow has more than 200 BMW and MINI cars in Lisbon, letting users take them between drive zones across the city. CarAmigo provides a peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace, letting anyone in Portugal rent out their car for those in need of one. The service already has more than 2000 cars available to rent, and offers 24/7 roadside assistance so car owners and drivers don’t have to worry.

Along with Lisbon’s car-based sharing services, the Portuguese capital has its own city bike sharing service called Gira. This service has placed green bikes around the city, letting anyone download the app and take a bike around the city. If you’re looking for something smaller than a bike, Lisbon has also welcomed a variety of scooter sharing services like Lime, Hive, Voi, and Bird to their city.
