How to Become an Airbnb Superhost

Find out what it takes to become an Airbnb Superhost and what the benefits are to being a Superhost.

Every Airbnb host’s dream is to become a Superhost on the home sharing platform, but it can be quite difficult to attain the hallowed SuperHost status. Superhosts are seen as the best of the best, a shining example for other hosts on how to provide the best possible stay for guests. Any top quality host should have few problems becoming a Superhost, however it’s important to know the requirements since Airbnb is quite rigid about enforcing them.

What are the Requirements to Become a Superhost?

Airbnb outlines the requirements to become a Superhost in their Help Centre, specifying that along with the listed requirements an aspiring Superhost’s account must be in good standing. Hosts don’t need to apply to become a Superhost since Airbnb performs quarterly assessments and will notify new Superhosts at the end of each assessment period. While host performance is measured over the past 12 months of hosting, a host does not need to have hosted for the full 12 months in order to qualify as a Superhost.

Superhost Requirements

  • A host must complete at least 10 trips OR complete three reservations that amount to at least 100 nights.
  • A host must maintain a response rate of 90% or higher.
  • A host must maintain a 1% cancellation rate or lower, with exceptions permitted for cancellations that fall under Airbnb’s Extenuating Circumstances Policy.
  • A host must maintain a 4.8 overall rating.

What are the Benefits to Being an Airbnb Superhost?

There are undeniable benefits to being a Superhost, from more visibility for your listing to exclusive rewards from Airbnb. Aside from the Superhost badge and being part of the Superhost search filter, Superhosts’ listings are featured by Airbnb to guests in search results and emails, making their listings much more visible. Due to the increased visibility for their listings, Superhosts often benefit from increased bookings and earnings. Superhosts also get a 20% added bonus when referring new hosts, and after each year as a Superhost receive a $100 USD travel coupon from Airbnb.

This blog post by AirDNA goes into much more detail what Superhost status is really worth, where Superhost status matters most, and when Superhost status doesn’t really matter.

Is it Possible to Lose Superhost Status?

Yes, it’s possible to have your SuperHost status revoked. Airbnb evaluates Superhosts’ activity every three months to ensure that Superhosts are keeping up with the platform’s clearly defined standards. If a Superhost doesn’t meet the requirements on assessment day they’ll lose their Superhost status. So if you earn yourself a Superhost badge, make sure to keep up the great hosting in order to remain a Superhost.
