Welcome Veselka to the KeyCafe family.
Veselka, in the heart of the East Village (or Ukrainian Village), serves, well, Ukrainian food. And they’ve been at it since 1954. For more than 60 years Manhattanites have been flocking to Veselka’s to feast on authentic pierogis, borscht, goulash, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, bigos and much more.
From its meager origins as a corner newsstand (East 9th Street and 2nd Avenue) serving up soup and sandwiches to the locals, the location has never changed but the food has stayed delicious and authentic as ever.
Fun facts: Veselka makes about 3,000 pierogis a day; 5,000 gallons of borscht per year; 2500 potato pancakes (latkes) every week. Veselka means rainbow in Ukrainian.
